Couples Therapy

Strengthening marriages at every stage.

I specialize in working with Black women and their partners, whether they are Black or non-Black. I have limited spaces for couples and therefore, restrict the practice to couples who are planning to marry or are already married.*

Pre-marriage Counseling:

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Benjamin Franklin

You are planning the wedding, but are you planning the marriage?  As you prepare to enter into the bond and contract of marriage, it might be wise to invest in pre-marital counseling to ensure that you are both heading towards a healthy, happy future.  During your initial session, we will discuss what you would like to get from counseling.  If we determine that I am a good fit for you then we will schedule individual sessions during which I will conduct separate intakes.  After the individual intakes, we will all meet and review the plan that will guide our work in future sessions.  Common areas explored in sessions include:

  • Communication
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Spirituality
  • Emotional Intimacy
  • Sexual Intimacy
  • Financial Issues
  • Family of origin issues
  • Healing from a specific event

Marriage Counseling:

“I still love my spouse, but I am not happy with the state of our marriage.”
Is your marriage at a crossroads? Are you wondering “what happened to us?” Are you willing to try to save your marriage? Let’s talk. Often marriages can be saved when the foundation is still sufficient to support rebuilding. Common issues to guide our work include:
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Effective Communication
  • Emotional Connection
  • Financial Issues
  • Parenting Issues
  • Family of origin Issues

Interracial Marriage Counseling:

“We want to work with a therapist who understands how racial differences sometimes impact our relationship.”

Are you looking for a therapist who gets the nuances and unique challenges of an interracial union? You have found me.  Being a Black woman married to a non-Black man for over 20 years, I have a vantage point that allows for a deeper understanding of issues specific to interracial marriages. Common issues to guide our work include:

  • Conflict Resolution
  • Effective Communication
  • Emotional Connection
  • Financial Issues
  • Parenting Issues
  • Family of origin Issues

*I do not work with couples where there is active alcohol or substance abuse. I implore the active user(s) to get help first and then I will be happy to work with youI also do not work with couples involved in domestic violence (for more information and resources on domestic violence please contact the Office for Violence Against Women: https://www.justice.gov/ovw/domestic-violence).
